Harvard University’s Research On Social Endowment Of Current Circumstances And Financial Affairs

Since the year of 1998, with the full implementation of the Government increased enrollment policy, the gradual popularization of higher education, the number of recipients benefited from short-term rapid expansion of higher education has increased dramatically, but the problem of school funding shortage has become crucially obvious. The supply and demand contradiction of higher education funding has been severely restricted and hindered the further development of higher education. The fact that Universities need diversified funding sources has become indisputable. China’s education funding system is unitary and the problem of the immature Endowment Fund system has revealed. To study Harvard University’s social contributions, social donation and to investigate into Harvard University’s methods on the raising, management and use of the social endowment, by learning the scientific methods to improve the social donation system of higher education and to provide a solution to the shortage of university funds, this subject is undoubtedly of great practical significance.This thesis consists mainly of four parts:Firstly, in terms of Harvard University, from the perspectives of its size of funds donated, types of donation, main donors, donation methods, through the years of investigation and analysis of data in social contributions, a detailed description of the Harvard University’s source of social donation and other specific issues will be presented. Secondly, from the angles of fund-raising strategy, managerial system, administrative agencies and other aspects, the reason of Harvard’s success of social donation will be explained in specific interpretation. Thirdly, a brief summary will be targeted on Harvard University’s current circumstance of financial affairs, an analysis of Harvard University’s financial capacity, financial structure, risk preference and investment returns will be explained in detail; Fourthly, through the studies of the reasons for successful social donation of Harvard University, and the disparity between Harvard University and our universities, based on this experience learnt from Harvard, a number of creative ideas should be derived, and this subject would find a way out for the promising diversified financing of colleges and universities in China.Through research and analysis, a conclusion can be drawn, in order to step out of the current financial predicament, we should learn, from Harvard University, the successful experience of social donation, pro-active marketing and reasonable financing plan, and establish a sound social donation system, a professional team to enhance the operational and managerial levels, thereby to approach various funding opportunities.
