Nathan Marsh Pusey,(1907-2001),the24th president of Harvard University. He oiffcedin1953,stepped down in1971. Pusey worked for18years at Harvard University. Pusey’s18years in oiffce,the faculty size and overall strength of Harvard has been to grow, the level ofscientiifc research continue to improve, Nobel laureate constantly increasing. Its academicstatus of research universities increasingly consolidating, its international influence andprestige is also growing.During this period, the positive change and remarkable achievements of Harvard, largely,are inseparable to the effective practice of Pusey. During his tenure, combined with thepractical needs of Harvard University, Pusey worked actively to promote the diversiifcation ofpopulation structure for teachers and students, achieved Harvard University from the elitebastion to diversiyf transition; adopted flexible measures to expand teachers, to attractoutstanding academics, enhanced teaching and scientiifc research; Continued to strengthenundergraduate college construction, innovatived undergraduate management model,promoted the level of undergraduate education at Harvard University to improve; improvedthe Graduate School building, making the Harvard University Graduate School mostlydeveloped in this period; Pusey also launched the largest fiindraising sports at Harvard history,and provide a reliable ifnancial support for Havard.As a principal, Pusey has a scientiifc, clear school idea, democracy, humble managementstyle, as well as vigorous and resolute policy implementation force,which is the importantreason for P’useys successful school governance practices ’. Puseys governance practices atHarvard University, has a very realistic reference value for the growth and the universitygovernance activities of our contemporary university president.
