With the economy globalization, the isolated or closed situation betweendifferent cultures or ethnic was broken. Xinjiang University teachers should havemulticultural awareness, because the university has the characteristics ofmulti-culture in the minority area in China. From the perspective of themulticultural,this study is trying to analyze the key of the implementation ofmulticultural education—Teacher, and to explore the status of teachers’ multiculturalawareness,and to analyze the factors that affecting teachers’ multicultural awareness.Finally, give some suggestions about the ways that improving Xinjiang universityteachers’ multicultural awareness.The first part of the study: Situation of university teachers’ multiculturalawareness. Examine the status of teachers’ understanding of the multicultural societyand multicultural education through questionnaire investigation and interview. Foundthat teachers hold a positive attitude for the social and cultural diversity overall, butthere exists deviations in the understanding of the multicultural education. And thereexists disconnect between teachers’ concept and behavior.The second part of the study is that analysis the factors that influencing Xinjianguniversity teachers’ multicultural awareness. The survey results of empirical analysisshows that teachers’ educational background, teachings’ teaching experience andpersonal cultural experiences all can influence teachers’ multicultural awareness. Inaddition, make a theoretical analysis about the factors on teachers’ awareness bycombining the theory of sociology, psychology and cultural.In the third part of the study is that explore some ways that can promoteXinjiang university teachers’ multicultural awareness. The suggested main ways ispaying attention to develop teachers’ multicultural awareness in the inductiontraining; changing new teachers’ attitudes towards teaching through counseling andteaching technical guidance; helping mid-career teacher scientific administrativetime and encouraging the innovation in teaching method; strengthen the shaping offuture teachers’ multicultural literacy.
