During the Nanjing National Government period(1927-1949), due to foreignpower’s incursion from outside and ethnic contradictions from inside, there was seriousinflation on the economy that made the social unrest. The repeated foreign powers’sincursion and frontier crisis intensifies had made people realized that only bydeveloping the frontier education to enhance national cohesion can protect our country.In frontier areas, however, for it’s vast territory with a spares population, the trafficinconvenience and the weakness of education foundation, it was very hard to popularizeschool education. After being aware of the particularity of frontier areas, the Nanjingnational government decided to develop the social education in this area. The historymethod and the literature analysis method are used to review the policies, institutionsand the main measures of the social education in the Northwest frontier region duringNanjing national government period according to time order, then make the overallanalysis of the impact and problems.The paper body mainly analyzes the development of the social education innorthwest frontier during Nanjing national government period from four aspects: In thefirst part, there is a review of the back grand of the culture and education and thesituation of the development of social education during the beginning of the Nanjingnational government was established to analyze the importance of social education infrontier areas. The second part mainly analyzes the relevant policies issued by Nanjingnational government for social education, the setting up and development of theorganizations for managing social education and the economy support on frontier socialeducation from the government. The third part expounds the major activities fordeveloping the social education in northwest frontier area, including education tour,temple education, public education, audio-visual education and social education in theschool also. The last part was a deeper analysis in positive influence from thedevelopment of the social education in the frontier region during the Nanjing nationalgovernment and the remaining problems.Generally speaking, the development of social education in Northwest frontierregion during the Nanjing national government period was effective, it made positiveinfluents in maintaining the dominance of the Nanjing national government, saving thecountry from ruining, promoting the national culture exchange, enhancing national unity,cultivating talents for frontier construction and promoting the development of the frontier economy. There is also a certain inspiration function for us to think of theminority education under the background of multicultural ethic today.
