With the deepening of reform and opening up, the acceleration of urbanization, industrializat-pn,marketization, great changes have taken place in rural society of China.Peasants are no longer a uniform group living on land, but have been divided into agricultural workers,the self-employed,migrant workers etc.Differentiation of peasant groups have brought some changes in education that they have different demands for their children to receive compulsory education, have different choices in children’s schooling location.The dissertation adopt the method of anthropology,select the poor town of central region of China-N town Y country as a case, to analysize peasants’ education choices from the perspective of household, and apply theories of economics,sociology,pedagogy to study logicality, reaon behind those choices.From field investigation and research, I find rural families not only have the trend of choosing city,town in school location,but also have the trend of staying in local areas,based on transformation of society, adjusting school distribution, which are driven by both positive intention,and passive helplessness. After futher research, I find the choice of rural household is in accordance with the logicality of investment-benefit maximization in microeconomics. Family choices are relevant with economic,social,geographical conditions of household,physical and mental health of kids,and their understanding for school, education.Each way of choice is the optical one in above contraints.Through the type and logical principle of education choice,combined with present situation and system of rural education.I find most of compulsory education are provided by government, which reflects strong public property. But the supply level is too single to meet diverse demands of rural family in new era. Meanwhile,the fact that education work as a tool of social mobility,combined with rank of supply, make rural families must accord to the principle of higher prices for better quality in economy in education choices,which desecrate the fairness of compulsory education. Therefore, the way of state oriented top-down of education supply, the way of nearby enter a school,enrollment allocation,produce a big gap with family diversation in education choices. In view of this, in future design and implementation of education policy, we should get rid of the orientation of economy,and re-examine the rural education from the perspective of equality,justice, to promote rural compulsory education more adequate and diverse. At the same time, in the process of policy formulation, we should surver the tarket group seriously,and provide a fair communication channel for different subjects, thus enhance the reliability of public policy.
