| Listening teaching has always been an important part in high school Englishteaching. As a rural high school English teacher, I understand the importance oflistening teaching. Therefore, this paper focuses on the problems of low efficiency ofrural senior high school English listening teaching and its causes leading to theproblems.Based on the current status of low efficiency of English listening teaching in ruralhigh schools, I conducted interviews with the teachers and the students in No.3&No.4high schools (rural high schools) in my county, including25English teachers(13fromNo.3High School and12from No.4High School),and400students (200students ineach school).I also undertook questionnaire surveys on them, and used statisticalanalysis to study the percentage of the data collected from the interview and thesurveys, trying to find out the following two questions:1.What problems exist inEnglish listening teaching in rural high schools?2.What causes lead to the existingproblems? And then I put forward the corresponding suggestions according to what Ihave found. My ultimate purpose is to find out an effective way to improve listeningteaching as well as the students’ listening ability in the rural high schools. In the thesis,I made a careful analysis of the problems existing in listening teaching according tothe first-hand data collected in the survey and interviews, I find that there is still acertain gap in listening ability between the high school students in urban areas and therural areas. But the investigation of this thesis only covers two rural high schools inmy county for the reason of limit of the time, the data I collected is relativerepresentative, rural high schools in different area have their own specific potentialfactors. I hope this paper can bring some revelation to the English teachers of the highschool in rural areas. |
