Autonomous learning has long been discussed by the researchers. The New Curriculum Standard was carried out in Sichuan Province in2010, whichstates that students’ autonomous learning ability is the basis of the quality-orientededucation. At present, many senior high schools in China pay much attention toexamination, which is a result of the college entrance examination. However, it is notopposite to the autonomous learning. The improvement of students’ autonomouslearning ability is good for their grades as well as their own development as a human. This essay will take Luzhou High School as an example. Based on the surveys andanalysis of the autonomous learning of the senior high school students, I am trying tofind the ways to develop their autonomous ability. I made a questionnaire from fouraspects: self recognition, self selection, self monitoring and self reflection, which wasgiven to300students of this school (100per grade). At the same time, I managed to findout the problems that exist in their autonomous learning through interviewing somestudents and doing a long-term research into an individual case. According to thissurvey and the research, the problems students have in autonomous learning are asfollows: in terms of self recognition, students have some learning motivation, but lowsense of competence. Some students show strong anxiety before tests and are notinterested in learning. In terms of self selection, the learning contents and aims aremostly decided by the teachers. In terms of self monitoring, students cannot managetheir time well and learning methods are not scientific. Most of them can overcomesome disturbance and difficulties in learning. In terms self reflection, students cannot doself-assessment well. Therefore, this survey is to put forward several solutions to how to cultivate the autonomous learning ability of the senior high school students. As for selfrecognition, the first one is to create the context in class to arouse students’ motivation. The second is to give students opportunity to present themselves. The third one is totake advantage of the modern teaching tools to open students’ eyes. The fourth one is toestablish friendliness between teachers and students. The fifth one is to build students’confidence. As for self selection, the first one is to use teaching resources properly. Thesecond one is to encourage students to use their learning tools. The third is to helpstudents set their goals. As for self monitoring, first, students should manage time welland use learning strategies properly. As for self reflection, multi-evaluation should betaken into consideration.Only when these students have certain autonomous learning ability can live abetter life in the school and can they get ready for their future development.
