Research About Monogamous Marriage Of Mosuo People In Ninslang County

Mosuo is a branch of Naxi minority. Most of them live in some townships of NinglangCounty,Yunnan Province. Such as, Yongning, Hongqiao, Cuiyu, Daxing, Ningli, Xinyingpan, Labo and so on. According to the calculation of Ninglanggovernment,the population of Mosuo people is about15000,while other of the minority live in Yanyuan,Muli and Yanbian in Sichuan Province.So far, many ethnic studies have deeply researched male-leaving marriage of Mosuo people and their maternal family,which led to some significant achievement. Research on Mosuo maternal culture and its male-leaving marriage have attracted international focus and significant influence.Therefore,when mentioned about Mosuo, many people think that their marriage form is male-leaving marriage and their family is maternal family. Actually,except the people live around LuguLake,otherMosuo people mostly take monogamy as their marriage form. In stead, studies about Mosuo monogamous marriage and its achievements are less. Therefore, based on the previous studies,this paper will emphasize on Mosuo monogamous marriage,in order to present the marriage form different from male-leaving marriage. Meanwhile, this paper will analyze the current situation and the features of Mosuo monogamy through comparing with male-leaving marriage, hoping that can complete the studies on marriage forms of Mosuo people.This paper contains five parts. In the first part, it gives a specific introduction about the significance of the subject, literature reviews,research focus and the general situation of the field. In the second part, it presents the background of Mosuo people’s marriage form,male-leaving marriage and monogamy. The third part is the theme of this whole paper. Taking Zimu village as field, it makes a deep analysis about Mosuomonogamy,their family structure,their life and the reasons of the development of monogamy in Mosuo society. The fourth part compares the two different marriage forms of Mosuo people. In the fifth part,it analyzed their flexible option of marriage,while discussing their cultural identity toward the other marriage form and their choice of marriage form.
