Group cooperative learning refers to the teaching method that involves studentsstudying in groups of four to six and help each other while learning with clearresponsibility for every member. Group cooperative learning in this research covers sixelements. They are team construction, method guidance, evaluation and inspiration, culturebuilding, model construction and learning plan guidance designing. Group cooperativelearning is not only an effective teaching strategy but also a useful learning method.Group cooperative learning can cultivate students’ cooperative consciousness,strengthen students’ cooperation ability. It is the effective way to achieve equality betweenthe communication between teachers and students. Therefore, in-depth study of groupcooperative learning has a great significance on developing good characters of students andimproving their social adaptability. But many of the teachers can’t understand groupcooperative learning well and they make mistakes when performing specific operations. Inabsorption of the theory about group cooperative learning and previous researches made byother teachers, this article does the empirical study of group cooperative learning.The research builds a specific model of group cooperative learning in junior schoolEnglish classes with six elements. The research has group cooperative learning as itsindependent variable and students’ academic performance (mean, excellent rate, pass rate)as the dependent variable. It strictly controls the irrelevant variables. We do the statisticsanalysis with the software SPSS.After the experimental study of more than one semester, we find that groupcooperative learning can greatly improve the students’ English learning interest andenthusiasm, students’ academic performance and promote the professional development of teachers, improve their teaching methods. The practice of group cooperative learningmakes the author realize that to make group cooperative learning more effective theteacher should do the following: build harmonious and pleasant learning atmosphere, graspthe cooperative discussion appropriately when designing students’ study plan guidance,have effective evaluation and incentive mechanism.
