With the rapid development of economic society and the risen of China’soverall national strength, peoples’ living standard, consumption needs,servicedemands are becoming diversified and multi-leveled, especially in the area ofsocial service and management, innovational service methods are merging, andsocial workers are playing an important role in this service providing process.In regarding to how to innovate social services to meet the demand ofpeople and society is becoming the focus of government, social public andsocial workers. This paper has selected “4:30PM School” as the object of studyand will discuss the role, methods and functions of the social workers at“4:30PM School” based on the sufficient enquiries and actual participation.“4:30PM School”(also known as “4:30PM Class”) refers to theorganization of the children that are not to be taken care of during the timebetween4:30PM to6:00PM after their classes due to their parents’busy work,providing the services like academic assistance, entertainments and hobbiesand interests developments,etc. in the use of existing activity place and humanresource of the community.I have selected “4:30PM School” in Haiwan Community,Shekousub-district, Nanshan District, Shenzhen as the point of penetration, attempts tounderstand the developing situation and analyze the roles, working methodsand functions of social workers through the actual participation and case studymethods.Study background. I will introduce the rise and development status,Management and operation mechanism, the content of social work, presentproblems of “4:30PMSchool”inHaiwan Community,Shekou sub-district,Nanshan District, Shenzhen and Shenzhen city. Key contents. I will dissertate the social workers’ roles and functions of“4:30PMSchool”in Haiwan community to analyze the role orientation,working methods and functions of social workers at “4:30PMSchool”in detailthrough observation, literature search and case study methods.The roles of social workers at “4:30PM School” including three parts:Firstly, managements; Secondly, Resource consolidator;Thirdly, serviceprovider. The role is extending to exponent, volunteer management, policyinfluencer and researcher.In the perspective of function of “4:30PM School”, social workers, rolesare as follows(1)in the aspect of social, the functions are including thepromotion of community harmony, policy perfection and systemconstruction.(2)in the aspect of service target, the functions are academicassistance, adolescents hosting and promotion of adolescents growth.Conclusion. I will summarize the problems and studies in this practiceprocess and bring up questions and suggestions of related study of “4:30PMSchool” in China.I believe there are new concepts and methods are came into being with thedevelopment and improvement of social work, and the roles and functions ofsocial workers are needed to be perfect and expanded.This paper forms an objective and comprehensive cognition of the rolesand functions of social workers in “4:30PMSchool”through the analysis of roleorientation and functions of social workers of “4:30PMSchool”based on theactual observation and research. I will attempt to provide a new perspective ofacademic research and reference of the improvement of “4:30PMSchool”inorder to provide an actual case to ensure the service quality and its developmenthas been increased.
