The new curriculum reform pointed out that junior high schools should set courses which combined with departmental teaching and the comprehensive teaching for all the students in order to improve their all-round quality. Theme-based teaching is one of the methods which are in comformity of the spirit of the new curriculum reform, comparing to the traditional departmental teaching which causes knowledge differentiation and ignores science process and social activities,it has more conformability and contextualization which could optimize study,deepen understanding and promote transference.Theme-based teaching is an effective way to put the integrated teaching into practice. Then,the main points in this study are whether the theme-based teaching is appropriate for biology in junior high school and the effective strategies used in the process of instruction.The paper consists of three chapters.Chapter Ⅰ,mainly explained the reason of the generation of theme-based teaching, and defined theme-based teaching and related concepts.Chapter Ⅱ,based on the junior high school biology courses,analyses the adaptability of the themed teaching in three aspects rtheoretical basis,the new curriculum conception and knowledge integration of biology,physics and chemistry,in which the part of knowledge integration of biology,physics and chemistry also provided useful curriculum resources to the implementation of theme-based teaching.Chapter Ⅲ,according to the degree of the integration ofdifferent disciplines,theme-based teaching can be separated into 《single discipline-theme teaching》 and 《interdiscipline/multidiscipline-theme teaching》.Based on the 《single discipline-theme teaching》,the author researches and analyses mainly thedomestic and foreign cases of theme-based teaching. Combined the thought of teaching instruction of contextualization,problematization,inquiry and diversification,four teaching strategies are raised:problem enriched instruction strategy,inquiry teaching strategy,multiple intelligence teaching strategy and WebQuest learning strategy,the detailed implementation proposals and reference cases were provided respectively.
