Social anxiety is a mental health disease which is prevalent in the youth, this kind of psychological problem not only impacts the college students’daily learning and social life, but also affects their future career development and achievements, as well as the normal functioning of family and society; Expressive writing is a gradual rising and developing psychological intervention technique in the field of psychology nearly two decades, its simple program and significant efficacy are concerned by more and more psychologists. In this study, the expressive writing intervention technique is used to solve the problems of social anxiety in college students’group, through the empirical research of expressive writing concentrated on alleviating social anxiety of college students under different emotional writing themes, the main results are as follows:(1) The expressive writing of neutral emotional topic significantly alleviated social anxiety of college students in short time, but the long-term intervention effect was not significant;(2) The expressive writing of negative emotional theme did not significantly alleviate social anxiety of college students in short time, and the long-term intervention effect was also not significant;(3) The expressive writing of positive emotional topic could significantly alleviate social anxiety of college students in short period, and the long-term intervention effect was very significant. Through typically individual case studies about the five positive themes and two negative themes of expressive writing to analyze their writing patterns, and explored the text features when the expressive writing of active theme has exerted effects. To propose more effective guidance language settings of expressive writing to alleviate social anxiety of college students, to optimize intervention effects of expressive writing about the positive theme, and provide better service for young groups represented by college students.
