“A good beginning is half done.” Lead-in as the first step in English classroom teaching is one of themost basic steps in organizing teaching. Generally speaking, lead-in lasts5-6minutes in Englishclassroom teaching but plays an important role. A successful lead-in strategy can activate the atmosphereof classroom teaching, provoke students’ learning interest and enhance their motivation, making themstudy actively and devote themselves to the classroom activities in a better state. But at present, there arestill a lot of problems in the strategies of lead-in in English class, and the effect of lead-in is unsatisfactory.How to use lead-in strategies effectively in English teaching becomes a big problem for many Englishteachers in senior high school.This paper conducts a research of lead-in strategies of No.3Middle School in Xinxiang. The authoranalyzes the situation of lead-in strategies. On the basis of the research, the author summarizes theexisting problems of lead-in according to the teachers’ practical teaching in their class. With thequalitative research of classroom observation, the author finds that lead-in strategies have great effects onstudents’ learning enthusiasm and learning efficiency in senior school. The author tries to explore theeffective lead-in strategies through the way of experimental research in English classroom teaching ofsenior high school, hoping to enhance the classroom atmosphere.This paper presents three research questions chiefly, namely,(1) What are the factors influencinglead-in in senior high school English teaching?(2) What are the useful ways of lead-in strategies used insenior high school English teaching?(3) How to improve the effectiveness of lead-in in English classroomteaching?According to the result of the survey the author finds some problems in the lead-in step. The authoranalyzes these problems and puts forward some suggestions of lead-in strategies in English classroomteaching of senior high school. First, English teachers should elaborately design lead-in activities to fullymobilize students’ learning enthusiasm and make them take part in the English classroom teaching actively.Second, in the process of teaching, English teachers should consider students’ psychological needs andcognitive features, and design the lead-in activities interesting, to make them learn English in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Third, English teachers should have a clear understanding of lead-in to improvethe quality of English classroom teaching in senior high school.
