In order to reveal the characteristics of outstanding diving coaches’ on-field coachingbehavior, this study used qualitative research methods,behavior analysis and facial expressionanalysis study outstanding diving coaches’on-field coaching behavior. It has built preliminaryevaluation indicators of diving coaches’ on-field coaching behavior and gave specificrecommendations, which provide important basis for evaluating or further enhancing the levelof diving coaches’on-field coaching behavior.I. Characteristics of outstanding diving coaches’on-field coaching behavior(1) In the training stage, on-field coaching behavior contains training organization,performance evaluation, action direction, effects evaluation and coaching strategies. Duringthe period of the games, it concludes guide to the first jump, emphasize key tips before jump,instruction after jump and indictor to next jump.(2) Outstanding coaches put focus on theaction guidance and performance evaluation, followed by effect evaluation. Trainingorganization is at least.(3) Problem posing is always with advices or affirmation. Outstandingcoaches most commonly use the guidance mode of "positive descriptive+improvementopinions or problems”.(4) Performance evaluation. Outstanding diving coaches prefer thepositive evaluation to negative.(5) Performance evaluation followed by each jump occupiesthe largest proportion. Facial expression is given priority to natural emotions. The emotionalstate is quite flat in whole game.(6) The on-field coaching behaviors of general divingcoaches need to be promoted.II. Preliminary evaluation index of diving coaches’on-field coaching behaviorThe preliminary evaluation index of diving coaches’ on-field coaching behavior includes5first and17second class indicators. First class indicators: Training organization,Performance evaluation, Action guidance, Effect evaluation and Command. Secondaryindicators: Formulate the training plan, Training, Training monitoring, Positive comments,Negative comments, Posing problems, Posing method, Strengthen key point, Questions oradmire, Action demonstration, Ask athletes’ feels, Compare with oneself, Feedback, Coachesself-assessment, Pre-arranged planning, Grasp the whole game and Coping with adversity.The study finally gives12pieces of advice to diving coaches for improving on-fieldcoaching ability. Choose the right way to communicate, Pay equal attention to content andemotion when communicating, Express your own view, Listen to the athlete, Immediatereinforcement, Choose good evaluation standard, More descriptive feedbacks, One problem ata time, Pay attention to the way of problem posing, Control training rhythm and atmosphere,Vary with persons and time, Be a good commander.
