Nowadays, with the development of modern technology, the communication between the countries is becoming more and more frequent, which makes English highly valued by the general public. As the most widely used language in every area of human life, English has become one of the main ways to acquire information. Thus, English reading is one of the main courses in senior school. However, some Chinese teachers and students pay too much attention to the vocabulary or grammatical competence in English reading classes, ignoring the importance of context or sociolinguistic competence and discourse competence, which leads to an unsatisfying result. So, in this paper the author will introduce a new teaching method-"5-Task-based Teaching Strategy" and its principals, and then apply it to the senior English reading classes. It’s hoped that through the application of this method, teachers can help students get to know the relationship between words, sentences and paragraphs. After using these5tasks, they can get the theme, the main ideas and also the important details of the text. If students can change their reading habit of focusing on parts to on the unity througth the training, their reading competence could be improved..
