One of the major goals of Mathematics Curriculum in elementary school isto have pupils mastering the basic knowledge of Mathematics. The understandingand mastering of mathematical concepts has tremendous positive impact on thedevelopment of calculating ability and logical thinking of pupils. In addition, italso helps pupils build up problems solving skills in real life and increase theirinterests in Mathematics. If the pupils are to grasp a correct, clear andcomprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts, both the teacher’steaching methods and pupils’ own understanding of Mathematics are equallycrucial. Therefore, a research on the strategies of concept teaching has asignificant meaning for pupils on their Mathematics learning.Above all, the thesis come to a theoretic foundation through summarizingthe current research on concept teaching of elementary school and analyzingdifferent teaching materials of elementary school on concept teaching. At thesame time,a series of strategies are raised based on various stages of conceptteaching. At the stage of perception of mathematical concepts, the teachingstrategies include specific examples, existing concepts and specific activities. Atthe stage of acquisition of mathematical concepts, the teaching strategies consistof reinforcement by positive and negative examples, rational using of variant anddiscovery of theory through mutable perspectives. At the stage of consolidationof mathematical concepts, the teaching strategies include intensive processing,integration and application.
