Physics is the basic subject of nature science, so we should take much more attention on cultivating talent of physical characteristics and encourage students to do hard work on physics contest. Electromagnetism is one of the two most import-ant content of high school physics for students to study. How does the test questions of electromagnetism in the Chinese Physics Olympiad test problem solving method, and what guidences does it makes to competition teaching, is the problem this paper want to solve.This paper takes the Constitution of Chinese Physics Olympiad, the theory of humanistic learning and educational theory of STS (Science and Technology and Society) as theoretical basis. It takes the method of text analysis to analysis the test questions in preliminary of Chinese Physics Olympiad of recent ten years. Firstly, the author has introduced some methods usually used in electromagnetism of physics competition, and then analysised the testing condition of problem solving methods in the test questions in preliminary of Chinese Physics Olympiad of recent ten years, and at last discussed the effect of strengthening the training of problem solving methods in promoting competition teaching, and some implementation strategies related to it.The conclusions are as the following:Through the statistical analysis, we find that there are47test questions are bout Electromagnet ism in the last ten years. Electromagnet ism is an important part in the competition, as the score of Electromagnetism is about one third in the total points. In the electormagnetic questions of the last ten years’ preliminary, there are more than half of it used synthetic method and analytical method, and the others used infinitesimal method, isolation method, image method, approximation method, m-ethod of equal effects,symmetric method, sbujunctive, the conservation transformation method, method of descent, mathema-tical function method, taking frame of reference method. In the problem solving methods frequently-used in Electromagnetism, which used the most are:image method, symmetric method, sbujunc-tive, and the conservation transformation method.There are some benefits if we take much more attention on strengthening the practice about problem solving methods in the process of competition training teaching. Firstly, it contribu-tes to enhance students’interest in learning physics and taking part in physical competition, and helps to correct student’s attitude for study. Secondly, it contributes to cultivate the thinking of students and then enhance their problem solving ability. Thirdly, it contributes to make students to get an excellent result in the competition and finally to cultivate outstanding and professinal people for our country.Through the theoretical analysis of the problem solving methods in the competition test, the author point out As for some buses in today’s competition teaching and the promoted effect of taking practise of problem solving methods for the competition, the author has some suggests:first,to make every problem solving method clear when explaining the exercises, and encourage student to use more than one method to solve one question, or use one method to solve more than one questions. Second, remenber to summarize at regular intervals, so as to help student to make it clear that what is the mehod in common use of each type of problems, and find out the regular pattern of problem solving. Third, encourage student to expand the problem or even make up a problem themselves, so as to expand their thinking about problem solving and fully excavate their potential about thinking.Through the analysis of the test questions and its problem solving methods in Electromagnetism of the last ten years’ preliminary, this paper summarized some suggestions to competi-tion teaching on the level of theoretical analysis, and then discussed some related strategies. This paper has something un comprehensive, the author will comtinue the research work about physics competition at work in the future.
