| Reading which is one of the four basic skills, is decisive in the cultivation ofEnglish language comprehensive ability for senior high school students. HenceEnglish reading teaching for senior students is playing a great part in the wholeEnglish language teaching.The National English Curriculum and the Test Syllabus for NMET presentdemands for reading ability specifically. The scores of reading comprehension are upto40points of the total150points, which is the largest proportion. In addition, Closetest and Error correction are not only to check the grasp of language points but also torequire students to have a command of reading ability. However, English teaching insenior high school and the present situation of English learning can’t meet thedemands of the New English Curriculum at present, which is a major concern. ManyEnglish teachers and researchers have paid much attention to English reading,therefore they have done much researches and made lots of achievements in thedomain of English reading teaching.The particularity is that the author works in Ganzi Tibetan AutonomousPrefecture. English teaching here has its’ own particularity. In order to learn about thepresent situation of English learning, the author has carried out an investigationcomposed of a test and a questionnaire. The total number of the participants is125from two classes of senior3. Then some teaching strategies are put forward. Thecontents of the investigation mainly consist of4aspects: linguistic knowledge;cultural background; reading strategies; reading motivation. The whole thesis contains three chapters:Chapter1is the part of empirical study, which is composed of two parts: theinvestigation design; result and analysis of the English reading ability test. Afteranalyzing the results, the author will discover the reasons.Chapter2is also the part of empirical study, which consists of the investigationdesign, and result and analysis of the English reading obstacles. Find out the mainproblems in English reading via the analysis of the results.Chapter3is aiming at offering teaching strategies to those problems. |
