With the latest edition (2012) of the primary school English curriculum standards published, primary school English curriculum in China has entered a new stage. The compile and design of English textbooks for primary school also has a new request. The main carrier of textbooks for students learning English, Its position cannot be ignored. It is important that if the teacher can use the new textbooks well and found the difference between the old and new English textbooks. So it’s important to research on the new English textbooks. The object of the research are the textbooks(2001,2012) in primary school published by People’s Education Press which is widely used in primary school of the city of Hohhot. The author use the literature survey method, the comparative method and the texts comparison method For the old and new English textbooks of the primary school’s compared.The first part is introduction, including the problem and significance, research design, and the related research. In the literature organizing, I collect the dates from the comparative research of the English textbook. The comparison research of the English textbooks are from the kindergarten to the university. Because this paper is a comparative study on primary school English textbooks, so the author put the primary school English textbooks’ literatures separated.The second part is the comparative research on the new and old English textbooks in primary school published by People’s education press. Since the new textbooks are attention to the language skills, there have the great changes in the language skills. So the author comparative the textbooks from the listening, speaking, reading and writing. Then the author compare the other difference parts between the new and old textbooks.The third part is the suggestions on how to use the new textbooks, according to the interview results from the English teachers of the third grade during my practice in Bei Yuan primary school in Huhhot, and the innovation of the new textbooks, the author give some reference opinions for the teachers and students. The teachers suggestions are given from the listening, speaking, reading and writing four teaching skills, and some more specific suggestions. The students suggestions are how to study the four skills and some other suggestions.The fourth part is the conclusion which can give the results and the inspiration from the research, the compiling of the English textbooks of primary school is still an arduous task in the future years, the researchers should keep abreast of the times. Adapt to the development of national economic construction, adapt to the physical and mental development of students to make the textbooks compiling skills more and more perfect.The textbooks are production of an era in some sense. The textbooks are updating with times development, which need to update our teaching ideas. At last, through this paper, the author hopes that this paper can provide some help for teachers.
