Assessment is an important part of English courses. Therefore, scientific assessment system is an important guarantee to achieve the course goal. It is clearly pointed out that in ordinary high school English curriculum standard, English course assessment system should reflect the multi-choice of the subject and the diversity of the form. Meanwhile, it should focus on the development process and learning effect of students’ comprehensive ability to use language.It also emphasizes that educator should combine formative assessment with summative assessment to make the assessment of learning process and learning result achieve harmony and unity.However, there are still many problems in education management process. That is how to effectively improve the quality and efficiency of education teaching work by following the formative assessment method in school. The fact of the matter is that in my school, neither the school nor teachers are familiar with management method of formative assessment; English teachers are not ready to face problems occurred in formative assessment’s implementation. And there is no systematic implementation scheme and data result for reference.Based on the above fact, formative evaluation method was conducted on two totally different classes, senior class and general class. It is proved that formative evaluation method is helpful for student development. The application of formative evaluation is put into practice in teaching and management:the application of evaluation form in listening and speaking, the application of reading habit comparative form in reading, the application of evaluation reference form in writing, the application of portfolio in practical teaching and management, the application of qualitative evaluation in homework, the application of observation and interviews.By using these means, educator can study the impact on high school students caused by conduct formative evaluationIt proves that formative evaluation method is helpful for student development. Specific result is increase of students’knowledge and skill, improvement of emotion and attitude, establishment of learning strategies, as well as strengthening of cultural awareness. Formative evaluation method also helps teachers to build up the education management on students and classes. Specific performance is that formative evaluation method points the working target to both teachers and students, provides supervision and inspection platform, and promotes the desires and emotions of the assessed students.During the implementation of formative evaluation process, problems and shortages occurred in education and teaching was found. More effective evaluation method and counter measurement was raised. That is early plan with serious care, effect focusing without trifles, proper evaluation method with timely adjustment, and perseverance with prompt feedback.
