The Contemporary Value Of The Nature Of P.E. Thought

At the beginning of the last century, Mao Tzetung first proposed in <A research of thesports>:"today’s advocates realy do set a variety of methods, but invalid. The external force isnot enough to move the heart,they don’t know what is the true meaning of P.E.". He pointedout precisely the dangers of "forgetting the foundation of P.E." is that "the person whoadvocated doesn’t get about this and the longer the time, the worse the effect.And if long timedon’t change, the effect will be even worse."The late famous sports Chinese scholar Mr. Lin Xiaofeng first proposed arevolutionary point of view "Competition is not P.E."in the essay of "World sports scientificand our new mission" which published in"Sports newspaper" on July19,1979.And it shockedat the time of the academia, but has not been accepted by the public.People have formed theinherent thinking of P.E. which are competition for a long time, namely P.E. arecompetition.But in Mr. Lin’s opinion of view, this is not the foundation of P.E., because theaim of competitive sports is to fight for the gold medal and silver medal,but the purpose ofP.E. is physical education and to strengthen physical health. But people often confuse therelationship between these two in their life practice. The phenomenon of misusing isrelatively serious.And the events that to borrow the name of P.E. and no reality of the P.E.often happen.Similarly, in Europe、the United States and other countries on the other side ofthe Atlantic also have many understandings of the word "P.E."For example, it is collected28kinds of interpretations of the word "P.E." in the book of "Physical Theory" written byButscher of the university of New York. But on the contrary, in the linguistics,the definitionof the word is very clear.As a proper noun, international English "P.E." is "physicaleducation".Its meaning is"physical education", its focus is the education (education).As youcan see, both in China and the western world, the understanding and definition of P.E. are notunified and uncertain, and even sometimes there are no differences between competition andP.E..For example they named " athletic competition " as "P.E. competition", named"playground"as "stadium"、named the "international competition" as the "international P.E.",and named the"history of P.E. culture" as the "history of physical training", and so on.Andeven there are some people who split off the P.E. from the physical education systemartificially, and it really means P.E. is not education.These will not only affect theunderstanding of the connotation of P.E. and the exploration of the true meaning of P.E. intheory，but also use competition instead of the P.E. and goes for the sports in the same way and goal of the competition.And it will lead to malignant events such as physical damage andcasualties.Therefore, to make the relationship between P.E. and competition and the nature and thetrue meaning of P.E. clear,it is not only has the important significance in theory,but alsoplays an irreplaceable role in guiding practice especially services in education and thepeople and promoting the national physical health.
