| With the development of the economic globalization, English is more widely used in international communication. English occupies an important position in the curriculum system of our country; it is one of the most important compulsory courses.In autumn of2001, the Ministry of Education announced a notification to start English curriculum in big cities and county towns, from then on, English has been taught in primary schools. As the ordination of the new national English curriculum standards, primary school English teaching has gradually become an important part of basic education. Learning English in primary school, students can be familiar with English earlier and have a brief understanding of basic English knowledge, which help students to lay a good foundation for the junior middle school English learning. However, the economic development levels are different in different regions of the country; primary school English classes are opened at different time. Moreover, in many primary schools, English class is not under the attention of the teachers and students, English have long been treated as a minor subject. A series of problems appeared inevitably in the cohesion process between junior middle school and primary school English teaching. These problems appear with the opening of the primary school English curriculum, become prominent increasingly, and hamper the development of English teaching. In this investigation, the author lies on the Constructivism and the Affective Filter Hypothesis, takes English teaching of primary and secondary schools in southern Shaanxi as the research object and carries out investigations and researches on the problems in the cohesion process of primary and secondary school English teaching. The author finds problems in practice, explores why, comes to the conclusion, and puts forward suggestions.Through this investigation, the author finds many problems of English teaching in the transition process from primary school to junior middle school. These problems are becoming more and more prominent these days. By analyzing the reasons, the author finds the reasons of these problems are from different aspects, so the whole society should work together to solve these problems correctly and effectively.The transition of English teaching from primary school to junior middle school is not just the change of textbooks, more difficult of knowledge or the transition of knowledge systems. Students’ physical and psychological needs and changes should also be taken into consideration. Besides, English teachers are the crucial factors in the transition process. English teachers should try to search for good teaching methods constantly. In order to solve these problems effectively, society, schools, teachers and parents should pay more attention to English teaching in primary schools and change their attitudes towards primary English. |
