With the rapid development of science and technology, new media are increasingly penetrating intoevery corner of people’s life and bringing great changes to people’s studying life as well as working patterns.As a young and dynamic group, college students have a strong sense of curiosity and desire for knowledge,thus having the higher ability to accept and grasp new things than other groups. As an emerging media form,the new media provides college students with an open platform for learning knowledge and understandingthe world, which provides a rare opportunity to the work of ideological and political education, however,these conveniences also bring forward new problems and new challenges thereto. Under this circumstance,analyzing the impact of new media on ideological and political education in college to explore theapproaches to enhance the effectiveness of ideological and political education by virtue of new mediawould become an important subject.Based on the study of existing theoretical results and multi-angle analysis, in view of new forms ofmedia, in this thesis it will be classified into four types: the portal site, network community, networkcommunication tools and instant sharing platforms. On the basis of the classification, the maincharacteristics of new media are summed up as follows: the immensity and diversity of the contents ofinformation; the instantaneity and flexibility of information sharing; the virtuality and concealment ofcommunicating ways; the equality and mutuality of communication subject; short-time and high-frequencyof using methods. New media provides abundant education resources and broad carrier platform forideological and political education in college, the application of this platform enhances the closerelationship between educators and the educated, which is conducive to boost the actual effectiveness ofideological and political education in colleges. However, in consideration of the particularity of the newmedia, new difficulties are added to the work of ideological and political education, resulting in greatchallenges for the ideological and political education team, status of the authority of educators andeducating modes. In the last part of this thesis, with regard to the current situation and existing problems ofideological and political education in college, I search out several approaches to enhance the effectivenessof ideological and political education: establishing the "people-oriented" ideal as the guidance of the ideological and political education; building up the "double subject" and modern education ideal;substantially strengthening both the educators and the educated on the media literacy education;consistently constructing and new media platform, particularly increasing the intensity of using new mediaplatforms by ideological and political education workers, in which the new media play an important role.Only through these measures, the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of the ideological and politicaleducation in colleges would be accomplished.
