With the deepening of reform and opening and the progression of economyglobalization, china’s economy has been developing rapidly. China’s upsurge arousesthe panic of western countries, America being the leading role. China consistentlysticks to peaceful upsurge route; it is confronted with severe internationalenvironment, though. After the cold war, the focus of American containment strategyhas changed, and American recent years’ strategy of returning to Asia-pacific regionhas been chiefly targeting at preventing China from surging up. The strategy attemptsto lure China’s neighbors through politics, military, economy and diploma to encloseChina, with which they have territory conflicts. Meanwhile, these nations have stirredaggressive events, which damage our national benefits and hurt Chinese feelings andwhich arouse Chinese undergraduates’ patriotic passion and trigger a proportion ofirrational behaviors and unharmonious voice. And with the increasingly heating ofirrational patriotic emotion, the blindness, impulse and irrational feelings are initiallyrecognized, thus it is essential to reflect Chinese college education on patriotism onthe background of the strategy of containment on China.Therefore, it is an unavoidable essential task for colleges or universities toguide their students to express patriotic passion, to solve the problems overlooking thehigher education on patriotism under this strategy and put forth the solutions. Byanalyzing the connotation and times characteristics of patriotic education, itschallenges on colleges and the approaches to higher educational issues on patriotism,the author concludes that higher education on patriotism should be based on theinstructions of rational thinking, transferring its passive precautions to activeeducation and directing college students to express their patriotism rationally and thatit is essential to analyze the problems and challenges objectively so as to nurturecollege students to develop purified patriotic ideology, which aims to maximize ournational interests and prompts the world to develop more peacefully.Through deep analysis of the issues of college education on patriotism at thesetting of the strategy of containment on China and by combining current domesticand international circumstances, this paper puts forward challenges and opportunitiesthat higher education on patriotism encounters, presents the guidance andcorresponding solving strategies and actively directs college students to developjustified patriotic ideology as well as behaviors, which offers a vivid thinking patternof solutions to a series of educational and teaching issues that higher education inChina is confronted with on this background. Definitely, this dissertation is of certainsignificance in theoretic researches and practical instructions.
