In 21 st century, there has been increasing global competition, and science and skilled researchers are the core of the competition among countries.To truly find a place in the match, the nursery of innovative talents became more important. Thus, our country began a new round curriculum reform in basic education period, New Curriculum.The aim is “to intensify the educational reform and promote the quality-oriented education in an all-round way”. Teachers are powerful enablers in this campaign, and they are also the main force in the development of school-based curriculum. It is necessary to develop teachers that can deliver high-quality teaching, which will make significant difference in the implementation of New Curriculum and school-based educational research. As a result, the improvement of school-based educational research ability is not only a primary task for teachers’ development, but also an important assurance of improving education quality. This thesis is focusing on the approaches of improving school-based educational research ability, the problems existed in high school English teachers’ school-based educational research was used as an entry point, based on Lin Fen First High School of Shanxi province. This thesis consists of six chapters:Chapter 1 Introduction. The output of the current problems, the meaning of the research, research methods, the related concept definition, conceptional basis and literature review.Chapter 2 Research design. The author designed questionnaires and interviews after a fully study of subjects. The questionnaires includes teachers’ paper and students’ paper. Teachers’ paper aims at study of the current situation and demands of high school English teachers’ school-based educational research ability, students’ paper was used as feedback of teachers’ paper, which is a powerful supplement to school-based educational research.Chapter 3 Status description. Based on the feedback of the questionnaires and interviews, and the practice with the observation in the internship of the author. This chapter is objective description and catalog of the current situation of high school English teachers’ school-based educational research ability.Chapter 4 Analysis. The analysis and conclusion about the causes of the current problems is the realistic and theoretical basis of the following improvement and perfection.Chapter 5 Approaches. This chapter is a main part of the thesis. The approaches of improving high school English teachers’ school-based educational research ability. Based on the current situation and analysis, the author put forward a strategy fit in Lin Fen First High School of Shanxi province. It is also a reference to high school English teachers’ school-based educational research theory and practice.Chapter 6 Conclusion. Summary of the thesis.
