Objective:The present study was to assess the difference of trunk postural stability in elderly women with a risk of falling; to investigate the significance of prediction of fall risk in elderly women.Method:there were 17 elderly women with history of fall and 17 non-fall subjects in similar body situations in the study, assessed their trunk postural stability about lumbar range of motion, trunk muscle mass, trunk muscle strength, trunk muscle balance, pelvis control capability. We also assessed their daily physical activity and functional capacities. The purpose of the present research was to compare the relevant differences and try to find correlations among these characteristics.Results:1. Compared to a fall group and non-fall group subjects’trunk postural stable characteristics, in trunk stable balance test was no significant difference (P> 0.05); in trunk unstable balance test, vacillating speed-x and trunk COP sway track distance were significant difference (P<0.05), no significant difference (P>0.05) in others; trunk muscle mass and muscle strength were no significant difference (P>0.05); lumber range of motion was no significant difference(P>0.05).2. Functional capacities test about Hand-grip strength, Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT), Timed 6-meter Walk Test(TWT) were no significant difference (P>0.05); trunk muscle mass, trunk muscle strength, trunk COP sway track area and pelvis control capability were correlations with TUGT(P<0.05); trunk extensor strength was correlations with Hand-grip strength (P<0.05). 3. Daily physical activity was significant difference (P<0.05), but there was no correlations with trunk postural stability (P>0.05).4. according to IPAQ got cut off value, subjects were divided into high-risk and low-risk fall groups, high-risk subjects’frontal plane trunk muscle strength was more asymmetry than low-risk group(P<0.05), however there were no difference about other characteristics(P>0.05).Conclusions:1. Trunk proprioception exercise and trunk strength exercise is significant of elderly’balance.2. Unstable trunk balance test wi th sitting position is a sensitive indicator to assess elder women’ trunk postural stability. Sitting state trunk balance tests can help find out some trunk balance disorder problems overshadowed by lower limb function. On the other hand, due to the higher security, this test method provides a new experimental ideas for future research related to the elderly.3. Daily physical activity is an important factors to predict the risk of falls in elder women and it is an effective screening indicators. Trunk postural stability exercise is a necessarily important part of prevention of fall for elderly’daily physical activity.
