With the rapid development of Internet technology, there are massive amounts of information generating every day. A large number of data gives support for scientific research of scholars, and also brings severe challenges at the same time. According to the research, when postgraduate have scientific research activities, they will spend a lot of time in information inquiry, which accounts for roughly half time of the research. Hence, the research on postgraduate information behavior is a matter of great significance. Based on the combing of existing achievements, the personal features of the postgraduate are divided into four parts, gender, major, education and universities; judge the task complexity according to the Cognitive theory of emotion of Robinson; divide postgraduate information behavior into four parts, information retrieval approach, information retrieval way, information communication and information utilization by information behavior definition of Wilson. Then, the author builds the model that individual characteristics and task complexity influence graduate student information behaviors. Take the current postgraduate of Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Southeast University and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications as the research objects, collect the data using questionnaire. The three main parts of the questionnaire include postgraduate personal features, task complexity and postgraduate information behavior. The statistics research effects of personal features on postgraduate information behavior; use the structural equation model to research the effects of task complexity on postgraduate students. Finally we come to a conclusion:gender has little effect on postgraduate information behavior, and only has a weak effect on the choice of retrieval methods; the education has a larger effect on postgraduate information behavior, mainly affecting the behavior of postgraduate on the use of information; relatively speaking, major and education have great effect on postgraduate information behavior. Both of them effect retrieval way observably, and also have some influence on other information behavior. Task complexity has a significant impact on information retrieval way and information utilization behavior of postgraduate. This thesis chiefly consists of three parts and seven chapters.Part One includes chapter one and two. Summarize the related research at home and broad, which forms the theory foundations for this research. Overview of literature mainly focuses on task complexity, information behavior and its influence factor, hackles the relevant theory of information behavior and task complexity, defines the concepts of postgraduate information behavior, personal features and task complexity in this article, and confirms the research ideas of this article.Part Two includes chapter three, four, five and six, which is the main part of this article discussing the influence factors of postgraduate information behavior. Many scholars found that gender, education, personal features, and task complexity have an effect on personal information behavior. Based on this, the author raises relevant assumptions, builds the influence model of personal features and task complexity impact on postgraduate information behavior, and designs the questionnaire. The distributed objects are studying postgraduate in four universities. There are 146 copies of effective questionnaire collected in all, and their reliability also has been checked. Make the statistics and analysis for the features of postgraduate information behavior. Take advantages of SPSS and Lisrel software to analyze the collected data, and verify the research assumptions. Then the author found that personal features and task complexity all have some effects on postgraduate information behavior.Part Three, that is chapter seven, has given the summary of this article discussing parts to be improved in this research, pointing out the research can build a systemic information behavior influence model from three points of view, personal factors, environmental factors and task factors, and developing the research of task complexity into information behavior of other groups.
