To Promote Learners’ Media Literacy In Chinese-teaching Of High School

Under the background of big data era, media transmission path has been rapidly increased with all-inclusive media information categories and contents. All these elements require high school students to have corresponding media literacy. However, media literacy improvement is lacking in current high school Chinese teaching in China. Therefore, media literacy improvement is becoming a valuable research topic for high school Chinese teaching as it can help to increase students’ Chinese literacy. Nonetheless, there are still many problems in current researches on media literacy improvement for high school Chinese teaching, such as inadequate acknowledge of media literacy, underutilization of related curriculum resources, and insufficient media literacy of high school teachers and so on. Based on such background, starting with defining concepts of media and media literacy, learning from foreign experiences of combining media literacy improvement education and native language teaching, this thesis analyzes current status and problems in media literacy improvement for high school students through Chinese teaching. This thesis also provides suggestions on such media literacy improvement.There are four parts in this thesis: the first part defines related concepts of media literacy. It summarizes connotation of media literacy by defining concepts of media and media literacy. The second part analyzes successful cases of media literacy improvement in the UK and USA. The third part concludes reason of lacking media literacy in high school Chinese teaching through research on media literacy in China and data analysis drew from empirical study by author of this thesis. The fourth part provides thoughts and suggestions on media literacy improvement for high school students through Chinese teaching.
