This paper adopts the investigation method in order to understand the students’ participation in making class rules based on the collection and analysis of previous related data with the researching method of literature. Some teachers from 4 middle schools in Henan province Chongqing City got interviewed. At the same time, a questionnaire was also carried among the students. The interviews of these teachers indicate that the class rules are generally made by the teachers themselves, and some class rules even remain unchanged for years. In addition, the statistics of the questionnaire analysis also show that, at this stage, most students are not satisfied with their own class rules which they think are too stringent and irrational. Unequal chances of involvement, lack of standardized participation, undefined scope of class rules formulation are all the dilemma students face. Through in-depth analysis of these problems, this paper finds out the reasons causing the problems and then puts forward the suggestions to optimize the students’ participation of making class rulesThis thesis consists of five parts. And the introduction part is mainly focused on the reasons of research topic, the significance of the research, concept definition, literature review, research ideas and research methods.The first part discusses the theoretical basis and value support of the middle school students’participation in making the class rules, and theoretical support includes the subject education and citizen education theories. Both of the two theories have approved the necessity of the students’participation. In the subject education theory, students are thought as the main body of education, which requires the students to participate in the process of education and become initiative. Citizen education theory considers from the students’future life and holds that we should instill the citizen consciousness in the current education to them so that they can better enter and adapt to the society. Allowing the students to participate in the class rules formulation is in full compliance with the requirements of the two education theories. Meanwhile, there is also value support for this, which exists in three aspects. First, it’s is beneficial to give full play to the role of students in class management; Second, it’s conducive to the democracy and equality of class management; Third, it’s good for the students’development in the future.The second part finds out the current situation of students’ participation in class rules formulation through the analysis of the survey data and discovers the main problems in the process. Judging from the current situation, most teachers and students are aware of the significance and indispensability of the class rules, but there are many questions in the process of students’ participation in making class rules. These problems are mainly manifested in unequal chances of involvement, lack of standardized participation, and undefined scope of class rules formulation.The third part finds out the reasons of problems in the students’participation of making class rules based on the rational analysis of the second part, which including the educational expectations deviation, education stubbornness of some teachers, shortage of interaction between teachers and students and students’incomplete understanding of the class rules.The fourth part puts forward six suggestions about the optimization for students to participate in class rules from two aspects of ideological change of teachers and scientific guidance of students.
