Female Employees Of Shanghai Department Stores During The Period Of The Republic Of China

As a kind of new shopping place, very different from traditional stores, the emergence of department store gave birth to female staff the new professional category, and has had an impact on the female employment and the liberation of women.During the Republic of China,the emergence and development of department store girl clerk reflects that the male as the main body of the workplace gender is loose.Department stores’ requirement for female employees, number,change, and the distribution of each department of female employees in the department store, female staff’s salary, and the evaluation of social for female staff in the department store, all to a certain extent, embodies the efforts of women in Women’s Liberation and encountered resistance during the Republic of China,which also reflects the degree of female employment and Women’s Liberation.Based on the analysis of the archives and the paper, In this paper, I will focus on Shanghai’s four major department stores,discuss this new professional category-the female employees of Shanghai department stores during the period of the republic of China.
