Sports activity led by the Communist Party in 1930s and 1940s were completely led by proletariat and mainly for the people. It had distinct signature of its times with emphasis on its role to assist in the wars which added a strong military tone.This dissertation uses reference materials such as Red China, New China and Liberation Daily etc of the central bureau's sports publications as main source. Nowadays the historic studies on sports activities led by the Communist Party do not sufficiently stress the three central bureau's papers, with little citation, therefore leads to lack of entirety on the topic. Based on the above academic facts, this study will fully explore historic materials from the three central bureau sports papers based on previous studies. In addition, this study will try to make breakthrough while leaving valuable reference for the later studies.The study on sports activities in 1930s and 1940s led by the communist party can broaden and extend our nation's sports theoretic systems, and provide practical assistance and guidance for the modern sports activities.This dissertation consists of five sections including the prologue. The prologue introduces relating academic studies of the topic. Chapter One analyzes the conditions on which the sports activities had developed led by the communist party. Chapter Two discusses mass sports activity and its progress, including sports activity of different time, different areas, and different departments in the base. Chapter Three covers great games held in the base and liberated areas, mostly games in Soviet districts, and other revolutionary bases and YanAn. Chapter Four summarizes the study and discusses the relationship between the three central bureau papers and sports in bases and liberated areas.
