According to the research and survey analysis of relevant literature on Chinese characters teaching and investigations on Korean Chinese teaching situation, the thesis come to the conclusion that the research on Chinese characters teaching is popular, however, most of them focused on practical steps to carry out the teaching, ignoring the feasibility of teaching Chinese characters, which lead to teaching practice dropping behind the theory. From the perspective of social development, the thesis analyzes the needs of Chinese talents in Korea, points out the necessity of learning Chinese among Korean elementary students. Because Chinese characters’ teaching occupies irreplaceable and indispensable position in Chinese teaching, the teaching of Chinese characters in the elementary school must not be ignored. In teaching Chinese characters, the teachers face the problem of font options. The thesis discusses the necessity of selecting simplified Chinese characters mainly from the points of its prevailing position in the mainland China. The thesis analyzes the possibility of studying simplified Chinese characters among Korean students in three aspects:first, Korean elementary students have advantages in educational environment as there are many Confucius Institutes, school Chinese education support and Korean native Chinese characters education; second, through theoretical analysis and case studies, the thesis expounds that children have more advantages than adults in the aspect of language learning from emotional factors and Critical Period Hypothesis. Finally, the thesis analyzes the advantages of learning simplified Chinese characters by comparing it with traditional Chinese characters.
