Research On The Freshmen Management For Independent Colleges As The Regular Higher Educational Institution

By the end of 2013, there had been over 300 independent colleges in China. The first independent college was established in China a decade ago. With the advantages of public funds and the brand new operational mechanism, they have managed to solve the problem of balancing the ever increasing educational demand and the insufficient supply.Different from the public higher educational institutions, the source of the students in independent colleges has its specificity. While some students have trouble adapting to the new environment, some even generate psychological problems. Therefore, the independent colleges should pay more attention to the management of freshmen. Instead of coping the management pattern and method of the regular higher educational institutions, they should uphold the "student-oriented" principle. The law of development of the students should be respected. New ideas and innovative nethods should be explored in order to make a new plan for the management of students, especially for that of freshmen.Based on the practical working experience of the author, this paper adopts the methodology of literature analysis and case analysis. Firstly, the content, forms, and methods of the freshmen management, especially that of the independent colleges are discussed. Secondly, ZC College in Fuzhou University is chosen as an example. From the specific problems of freshmen management, the status quo of the freshmen management in the college is analyzed in order to seek the root of the problem. In the end, based on the theoretical and practical analysis of the current situation, the concepts of the management will be applied to the practice of freshmen management in independent colleges. A new freshmen management pattern will be established. Hopefully, it will provide new ideas and methods for the freshmen management of independent colleges.The author believes that the current student management in China is far from enough to cater the need of the rapid development of exsisting independent colleges. With the premise to guarantee the quality of education, it’s urgent to break off from the traditional management pattern and establish a more effective and scientific pattern. The successful management of project management in the enterprises has pointed the new direction and paved the way for the reform and innovation of student management. From the view of project management, this paper analyzes and applies some specific large-scale activities in the freshmen management, such as new student orientation, career plan, the management of emergencies. A scientific and common reference model is thus put forward for freshmen management, which can be helpful for indenpendent colleges. From the studies, this paper proves the feasibility of the application of project management to the freshmen management in independent colleges.
