A project of vital and lasting importance, education is this. The development of education is of vital importance to the prosperity of the country. In 1999, the Ministry of Education promulgated the "revitalization action plan for the twenty-first Century education", which promoted the development of China’s higher education at an unprecedented rate. Along with the higher education expansion, college students increase dramatically. As a result, problems such as the grim employment situation, low wages are beginning to surface. Therefore, many people start to doubt the value of higher education. As a researcher of higher education from the countryside who is in tertiary education, I expect to investigate the impact of higher education on rural college students’ life from the view of graduates. This paper selects none shanghai rural graduates who enrolled by the university from 1999 to 2001 as objects of study. These rural graduates have stepped into the society for more than ten years, now living in Shanghai. They are the first group of people who enjoy the benefits of the higher education expansion. Based on the interview, this research briefly described the respondents’ family background and experience, and then explored the relationship between higher education and the life trajectory and career development of the graduates in decade. On this basis, this research focused on these graduate’s evaluation and reflection of higher educational, and then to explore the influence of higher education to the rural students and the problems of talents cultivation.Through analysis the investigation information, this paper draws the following conclusion:1. higher education’s influence on individual economic income is still controversial. However, the rural college graduates are not regret they had received higher education. They affirmed the positive impact of higher education on their integrated development. That is to say, they hold a positive attitude to the effect of higher education. In addition, they disagree with the viewpoint of "education is useless".They claimed that only those who wasted time in university regard education as useless.2. The main difficulties facing with rural university graduates is the planning of university life and they way to make full use of university resources. Hence, they wish universities to give them more guidance.3. What rural students need most is the suitable high education for them. Although occupation education is one of the most important choices, other multiple talents cultivation mode is still hope to provide.4. Higher education has different influence on graduates’career development at different time. At the beginning of individual career, the knowledge learned from university has significant influence on development of one’s career. After three to five years later, one’s achievement are mainly depends on the individual’s ability, effort and other quality characteristics.5. When the rural graduates arrived in Shanghai, the vast majority of them had the "ant tribe" experience. They think this is a necessary stage to at their beginning development of Shanghai.6. The rural college graduates’their assessment of higher education is influence by living condition. Those who well developed usually think highly of higher education. This research is aim at expressing the demand and confusion of rural college graduates for higher education. With the real examples to respond to the social query of higher education, this research conveyed a kind of value concept that we should have a rational evaluation about the value of higher education. Promoted by this research, similar research is supposed to develop to cause more researchers to concern the rural graduates. Moreover, we can absorb the useful opinions and suggestions, which will promote the future development of China’s higher education.
