To reinforce the monitoring on basic education, develop a set of basic education monitoring standards and indicators system is an important means to promote the development of basic education. Therefore, in recent years, our country put forward to strengthen the monitoring on basic education and the developing on basic education monitoring indicators system.This research is going to analysis American STEM education monitoring indicators system’s advantages and characteristics and learn some experience from them.Then, try to explore how to build our country’s basic education monitoring indicators.This research take the American STEM education monitoring indicators system as the research object,We use literature method, case analysis method and comparative research memod,examining the American STEM education development history and current situation, learning the STEM education monitoring history, the challenges and countermeasures.Then,we take three sets of STEM monitoring indicators system which were lately developed by The national academy of sciences, Iowa state, and "Change the Equation" for cases, focusing on the analysis of the indicators systems’ advantages and characteristics. Through research, we have concluded that the American STEM education monitoring indicators systems have these advantages:Firstly, they have professional research institutions and efficient organization form in developing indicators systems.Secondly, the indicators syestem are based on the STEM education policy goals and STEM education standard. Thirdly, the indicators syestems are comprehensive and the dimensions are scientific. Fourthly, they attache great importance to the construction of education data and Pay much attention to the STEM discipline integration.Fifthly, they established STEM education monitoring system and relevant mechanism. Admittedly, the deficiency of indicators systems is lack of indicators weight.After examining the monitoring on basic education and its monitoring indicators system develop history and present situation in our country, we have concluded that there are some shortcomings and the insufficiency both in the theory and practice of basic education monitoring and its indicators system in our country. Based on learning the American STEM education monitoring indicators syestm’s advantages and characteristics, we put forward some Enlightenment and policy recommendations to further strengthen our country basic education monitoring practice, promote the developing of monitoring standards and tools and speed up the constructing of basic education monitoring indicators systems:Firstly,we should base on think-tank, professional organizations,and collaborative innovation. Secondly,we should have a clear basic Education purpose and modify basic education standards.Thirdly, we should attache great importance to the construction of data and strengthen the basic education information collection.Fourthly,we should establish a basic education monitoring system and relevant mechanism.
