With the rapid development of national economy and the improvement of people’s living standard in the recent years, the ratio of dietary calorie intake of Chinese residents has increased significantly. Moreover, more and more residents are living a static life and reducing physical activities, which causes obesity to loom large in our country. Being a problem concerning the public hygiene worldwide, obesity is more likely to cause physical and mental diseases as well as the increase of public expense. In our country, obesity has spread among children and adolescents, from urban areas to suburban areas, presenting a lower-aging trend. Obesity among children and adolescents has become the major predictive factor in their later adulthood. As a result, for the sake of sanitarian and economical benefits, the prevention of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents is the most effective measure to make greater benefit with less expense. There are many factors that lead to adolescents’ obesity, including genetics, behavior, environment and so on. These factors are interacted. The study mainly concerns the behavioral factors that affects obesity, such as dietary behaviors, physical activities and so on. The study is carried out among the junior and senior students in four middle schools in Guangzhou, and three conclusions are drawn as follows, based on the research methods of questionnaire, data analysis and variance analysis.(1)3.36% of the students surveyed suffer obesity and 8.36% of them are overweight. The percentage of obesity and overweight in male students are higher than that of the female students. Compared with the research results carried out before, the percentage of obesity and overweight in male students are on the rise, which is the opposite case of female students.(2)The average of BMI is 19.28 among the teenagers in Guangzhou, which is lower than other developed cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai. However, the overweight rate is more than twice of the obesity, showing a trend of obesity. Therefore, it should be interfered early.(3)Teenagers care little about controlling their daily diet behavior. They lack dynamic exercise and spend more time on passive activities.(4)Male students’ BMI is notably higher than that of the female students, so is their daily time on dynamic exercise. Their difference in diet behavior and daily time on passive activities is not remarkable.(5)BMI varies from grade to grade. Moreover, students from different grades spend different time on both dynamic and passive activities. The higher the grade they are in, the higher the BMI they get, the less they can control their diet behavior and the less time they spend on both dynamic and passive activities.(6)BMI is negatively related to diet behavior and the average daily time on dynamic activities. However, BMI is positively related to daily time on passive activities. The regression equation of diet behavior(X1), average time on dynamic activities(X2) and average time on passive activities(X3) is Y = 19.41-0.05X1-0.18X2+0.26X3.In conclusion, the research, which aims to take effective measures to prevent and control teenagers’ obesity and overweight, provide educators, Community management workersand parents with the following suggestions. Firstly, schools should attach importance to the management of students’ health behavior. Secondly, make sure the quality and quantity of PE lessons. Tertiary, it’s very essential for parents to transform their opinions and participate in it. Lastly, Making full use of community health promotion and health education position.
