Adopted quantitative research method—meta-analysis, the study is on the relationship between education and income inequality. Searching with key words “education and inequality” in CNKI, using meta-analysis standard, about 30 pieces of paper are selected and then 77 valid results are extracted. Based on the data, two general conclusions are drawn. On the one hand, this study verifies that there sees an inverted U shape relationship between education and income inequality. On the other hand, from the MRA We find that the result’s heterogeneity, to a large extent, can be explained from calculation method, place and time etc. After the Meta-analysis, Integrated sample survey data based on 2008, 4237 towns using quantile regression and ordinary least squares method for studying the impact of education on income showed that educational expa nsion will significantly increase residents ’ income, but education expansi on rate is smaller than the impact on the low-income people with high inc omes. The thesis structure is as follows:Chapter One explains the background information and research significance as well as literature review at home & abroad, which paves a way for the ongoing study.Chapter Two introduces the research significance of the subject— education & income inequality and defines the two most important variables “education and income inequality”.Chapter Three gives a thorough and systematic introduction of meta-analysis method, including definition, advantages & disadvantages, analysis steps and meta-analysis standards.Chapter Four demonstrates the result. According to data type, a research model is determined. Besides, an explanation from six perspectives is given to account for its heterogeneity. Finally, publication bias assessed with funnel plots is analyzed.Chapter Five based on the sampling data to study on the effects of education on the income of urban residents. The last—conclusion, makes a summary and points out weakness of the study as well as solutions to the result are given.
