| With the advancement of urbanization in China, the urban population has surpassed half of the total population, and the ratio has continued to rise. This means that the income inequality of urban residents in China will play an increasingly important role in the overall income inequality, which sets a demand for further understanding of the various causes of urban income inequality and the relationship between them.Education among many influencing factors of income inequality is a focus that scholars pay close attention to.In recent years, with the increasing number of college enrollment, the status of higher education for urban residents has undergone major changes. Therefore, this article will analyze and discuss the impact of higher education on the income inequality of urban residents, and divide the income inequality of urban residents into the causes of their causes.Through the comparison of the importance of higher education and other factors in the formation of income inequality,we can known the relative contribution of higher education to the urban residents’ income inequality. This will provide guidance and reference for formulatting relevant policies and regulating the income inequality of urban residents. This paper collates and analyzes the data on the status of higher education of urban residents in China in recent years and finds that although the expansion of enrollment in colleges and universities has steadily increased the average number of years of education for urban residents, the difference in the quality of education among colleges and universities has gradually expanded. The status quo shows that due to the difference in residents’ attending colleges and universities, there will be great differences in the level of education among individuals in the same years of higher education.Because the learning process of student-school interaction is called the education process, the difference in the education level of the residents brought about by the difference in the quality of such education can be called the difference in the process of higher education. Therefore, when analyzing higher education as a factor to income inequality, this article takes years of higher education and higher education process as indicators of the level of higher education.Based on the Chinese household income survey data(CHIP2013)and the Sharpely value decomposition method, this paper finds that:(1)After adding the education process to the income decision function, the coefficient value of the years of higher education is significantly reduced, indicating that there has been a deviation in previous studies.(2)It can be found through the factor decomposition results that the educational years have a higher contribution to the income inequality of urban residents, the ranking is only lower than the industry and regional factors, and the duration of higher education and the higher education process also have a contribution that can not be ignored.Higher education generally has a strong decisive effect on the formation of urban residents’ income inequality.(3)Through further analysis of the income inequality of higher education groups,it is found that higher education has a direct contribution to the income inequality of higher education groups. Finally, based on the differences in the number of years of higher education among residents and the causes of differences in the process of higher education, the purpose of this study is to formulate an effective control over the income inequality of urban residents. This paper presents relevant policy recommendations. |
