Equation is an effective mathematical model to solve the problem with equivalent relationship in the world, is one of the important tools to solve the problem. Mastering equation thought can help the middle school students to understand and master the basic knowledge of the middle school mathematics easily. Elementary school students are accustomed to solve word problems using the method of pure arithmetic. But we found that it’s difficult to adapt the "equation" for many students from primary to secondary school in the long-term teaching practice. And it has significant limitations to solve more complex topics about quantitative relation by the way of the arithmetic solution. It is because that the equation though of the student has not been formed. The transition from arithmetic thought to the equation thought is the transition from understanding of digital to sign of language, is a qualitative leap of image to the abstract in the level of thinking from exception to common, simplicity to complexity. Therefore, it is very important to help students establishing equation thought.Taking students of Grade Seven as the research object, the paper studied the following three aspects by literature research, questionnaire survey and the way of the combination of case studies: understanding the degree of students of Grade Seven mastering equation; thought disorder of middle school students when they solve the practical problems using equations; High school teachers help students to establish and use the equation thoughts; On this basis, This paper researched and analyzed the present situation of equation teaching in Grade Seven. we found a lot of problems: the students had accustomed to use arithmetic instead of equation; Equation the understanding disorders has been existed in the understanding of equation thought; Never capture the relationship of equivalent; The above problems were improved appropriately and some effects were achieved, Teaching strategies has the following: Pay attention to the teaching’s convergence of Primary and Secondary; Cultivate the Symbol Sense; Pay attention to Process Teaching, Strengthen the reading comprehension skills.
