AbstractIn 2011 national "primary school English curriculum standard" pointed out: basic education stage the overall goal of English course is to cultivate students’ comprehensive language using ability. Comprehensive language using ability based on the formation of students’ language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitude, learning strategies and cultural awareness, on the basis of overall development. Its basic idea is to face all student, pay attention to quality education; The overall design goal, flexible and open; Outstanding students, respect for individual differences, etc.In the actual English teaching, insist on English teachers must face all student, lay a foundation for students’ all-round development and lifelong development. Pay attention to students’ emotion, create loose, democratic and harmonious teaching atmosphere; Advocates "task-based" teaching approach, cultivate students’ comprehensive language using ability; To strengthen the guidance of students’ learning strategies, to lay a good foundation for their life-long learning; Expand the students’ cultural field of vision, developing their cross-cultural communication consciousness and ability; And make full use of modern education technology, broadening the channels for students to learn and use English; Organization of lively extracurricular activities, and promote the students’ English learning requirements.This study attempts to answer the following questions: 1) the present elementary student’s English learning in Shanghai suburb, what are their characteristics? 2) how the current situation of primary school students English learning motivation in Shanghai suburb? 3) primary school students in Shanghai suburb, what are the reasons behind the status quo of English learning motivation? 4) inside and outside the classroom based on motivation theory, maintain and stimulate the pupils’ English learning motivation inner and outer suburbs?The research results show that in terms of English learning motivation, their own expectation value of elementary school students in Shanghai suburb is low, high achievement motivation, and self-efficacy is not optimistic, correspondingly, the lower the student’s self-efficacy, learning English grades is low. This to a certain extent, some experts supporting the claims of a correlation between learning motivation and student academic performance. In addition, the suburban pupils eager to pursue success in English learning, and desire from the appreciation of English teacher, can make my English result is bad is calm analysis due to its hard enough. Relative to the school English teaching environment, for their part, more important subjective psychological feeling of in the English class. Their English learning purpose clear, with is that they expect to care and positive comments from teachers and parents.Adjust the teachers’ teaching methods to some extent, helps the student to obtain self-efficacy, help students to improve the students’ English learning motivation, improve the students’ English learning, English teachers in the teaching, consciously pay attention to stimulate students’ English learning motivation, meet the needs of the students’ English learning motivation, let its produce higher self evaluation, self decision and self expectation value, help maintain and suburbs elementary English learning motivation.
