Morden women bear the greater stress from work and life. In the face of the conflict between work and family, some women choose to return home as a’full-time wife’. Twenty full-time wifes of Taiyuan are selected to be interviewed in this paper. Through investigating and analysing their living conditions and psychological state, I try to get more objective and deeper understanding to contemporary full-time wifes which as a social group.Secular views about the’full-time wife’are mostly one-sided. Many people think full-time wifes are very comfortable and leisure. They are wealthy and free. They do not have to work exhausted, no meed to join the social competition, and avoid to meet the dilemma between work and family. However, because they only work for their own family and can not creat social value directly, people view them as dependent, parasitic women. Their individual values could not been recognized universally. In this paper, I investigate the individual circumstances of the twenty full-time wifes, the reasons why they return to family, their daily routine, their physical and psychological state, their degree of satisfaction to current life, their career aspirations, their needs of self-worth and so on. Then I sum up the advantages and predicament of them. Personally, full-time wifes do not need to bear social pressure of competition, and could take better care to the family. To some extent, they are also better for easing the tensions in employmen. However, according to the survey results, the full-time wifes have more difficulties than the advantages they own. Their social ranges are narrow. They lake the sense of security. It is very difficult for them to achieve the social recognition and self-realization. Most of the full-time wifes just give up their jobs for a special period. They tend to work and realize their self-value in the future. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part is an introduction, introduces the issue of the article, significance of the topic and research methods. The second part describes the survey content, analyses the difficulties of’full-time wife’group and its causes from gender perspective, using the theory about gender roles, female role orientation in family and society, etc.. The third part focuses on solving the practical difficulties. We give suggestions to women themselves, their families and the society to recognize the contribution of full-time wifes, respect their personality and values, and protect their health and rights.
