The autonomous learning ability is the basic ability for middle school students. In recent years, the education reforms of our country have continually developed and much attention has been paid to the autonomous learning ability for middle school students. However, education reforms in our country have not greatly improved middle school students’ autonomous learning ability, because the teaching models in middle schools have not been changed. Under this situation, some middle schools apply learning plan guide and certain achievements have been made, and the research about learning plan guide gradually has been on the rise as well. The paper advocates that the model of learning plan guide exerts a positive effect on improving students’ autonomous learning ability.Based on the theories of constructivism, humanism, autonomous learning and zone of proximal development, the thesis focuses on how to design learning plan guide, how to use the learning plan guide to cultivate students’ independent learning ability, and how to make students’ autonomous learning ability improve. On the one hand, the thesis tests the effectiveness of learning plan guide for improving middle school students’ independent ability, on the other hand, the relevant concepts, theoretical basis of autonomous learning and the basic theory of the learning plan guide are discussed in the thesis, and the junior middle school students’ English autonomous learning situation is also analyzed based on the collected data. Meanwhile, the thesis advocates that the design, preparation and the use of learning plan guide is helpful to build the teaching model of the learning plan guide on the basis of a comprehensive and systematic relevant experimental research. Finally, the advantages and shortcomings of English learning guide plan of cultivating the ability of junior middle school students’ English autonomous learning are summarized.The main findings of the thesis are as follows: firstly, the English learning plan guide has a positive influence on junior middle school students’ autonomous English learning initiative, habits and learning methods; secondly, junior middle school students’ English academic performance has significantly improved with the English learning plan guide; thirdly, it is effective and feasible to use the English learning plan guide to train junior high school students’ autonomous learning ability.
