Facing with the lost of higher education spirit and loss of higher education ideal, educators in higher education should reshape higher education ideal. The decline of higher education ideal is one of the root causes of problems of today’s higher education. In this case, reshaping contemporary higher education ideal has become extremely important. This dissertation expand on reshaping of higher education ideal, basing on the grasp of meaning of higher education ideal, organizing the development of higher education ideal, analyzing dilemma of development of higher education ideal, hoping to provide some reference to contemporary higher education development.This dissertation consists of following four parts:The first part is the theoretical overview of higher education ideal. It is to analysis the connotation of the unity of the true, the good and the beautiful on the basis of understanding their meaning and combines the virtues with higher education ideal. In this part, we also explored the four characteristics of higher education ideal. The four characteristics of higher education ideal are subjectivity, transcendality, perfection and education. Among the four characteristics, subjectivity, transcendality, perfection are the general property of ideal. Also, these three characteristics are limited. However, education is the unique property of higher education ideal. In the end of this part explains the necessity to pursue the ideal of higher education.The second part is historical investigation of higher education ideal. Through retrospective of history of global higher education ideal, we can find that the principles of eternal value are always advocated by people from ancient times to the present. These principles include truth, supreme good, beautiful, intelligence, and harmony. Though these principles had been given different meanings from different ideologists, their essence are unchangeable. Different meanings of these principles could only help people to deepen their understanding from different aspects and to approach the essence.The third part is analysis of dilemma of higher education ideal. This chapter analyzes the negative effects for higher education ideal from higher education situation and higher education ideal departed from higher education situation. The situation has two causes, external reason and internal reason. The external reason is that the utilitarianism, instrumentalization, and the service type of higher education bring negative effect to higher education. The internal reason is that higher education is out of realities of life, neglects human being’s limitation, and ignores social development. The two reasons led to the consequence that the incompatibility between the higher education ideal and reality.The forth part is on reshaping modern higher education ideal. As an education activity of cultivating high quality talents, higher education should constantly pursue truth, kindness and beauty and to achieve the unity of the true, the good and the beautiful. The true in reshaping of higher education ideal means eliminate misreading and grasp essence of higher education ideal. The true reflects in wonderful higher education process. The good in reshaping of higher education ideal means give full play of education type of higher education, make a people educated. The good reflects in the significative higher education achievement. The beautiful in reshaping of higher education ideal means the unity of teleonomy, regularity and transcendence and to reshape higher education ideal to the unity of the true, the good and the beautiful.
