In language learning process, vocabulary learningserves as the basisof language learning. The mastery of vocabulary learningstrategiescan improve the efficiency oflearning, and thus improve theirself-learning awareness and ability. Junior high school studentsare in the initialphase oflanguagelearning, andare at the state of mass vocabulary accumulation. However junior high school students’learningtasks are arduous, and their time is limited. So the mastery of certain vocabulary learning strategiesforthem isof great significance.This research based on studies both at home and abroad about languagelearningstrategies. The questionnaire about English vocabularylearning strategies is compiled by adopting Oxford’s classification on learning strategies. The questionnaires have been issued to 200 students inWuhanXinhuaRoad Middle School. And at the same time, two English teachers in this school were interviewed aboutEnglish vocabulary learning strategies. Through theanalysis on the dataobtained, the general application situation of English vocabulary learning strategies in this school is concluded. According to the result, in this school, cognitive strategies, metacognitive strategies and affective strategies are of relatively high application rate. Memory strategies and compensation strategies are of medium frequency. Social strategies are of low frequency.This paper firstlyintroduces the significance ofthe researchandthe background of the research briefly, and reviews the empirical studies of languagelearningand vocabularylearning strategies. The definition, classification on language learning strategies and vocabularylearning strategies, and related studies are introduced.Then, theresearch methods are introduced.Details, such as theresearch questions, research instruments, and research procedureof this study are introduced. According to the data collected during the investigation, discussion and analysis are proposed. Synthesizing theresults ofthe survey, the interviewand theobservations, this paper sums up the overallvocabulary learningawareness, vocabulary learning strategiessituations in this school.Correspondingly, some implications and suggestions on vocabulary learningand teaching for junior high school are respectively put forward. Finally, the author summarizes theentire paper. Findings and results about general application situation of English vocabulary learning strategies in this school are concluded. The limitations and recommendations of this research are also discussed at the end of the thesis.
