Ideological education is the core of ideological and political education, and giving common people an ideological-education-dominated ideological and political education is the top priority of the ruling party of each country. Ideological education concerns such essential issues as ideological safety, social stability and governmental legitimacy. In the current complex situation, how to extend an ideological education to our common people(especially juvenile students) as well as party members and cadres has become fairly crucial. Hence, conducting research on this project has distinct characteristics of the era and practical significance.This paper is divided into five parts. In the first part, the author puts forward some innovative points on the basis of sorting out and summing up the works and papers of domestic and foreign scholars concerning ideology and ideological education. In the second part, the author defines topic-related core concepts and concludes their features, functions and systems, and also clarifies the significance of ideology and its education in order to allow for a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of various aspects of both.In the third part, the author summarizes relevant problems existing in the present education system such as institutional ones by investigating the current situation of ideological education and analyzing the historical lessons of ideological education as well as the systems, contents and certain achievements of current ideological education; afterwards, the author makes his own basic judgments and conclusions on current ideological education by further discussing various political and social problems having appeared in modern China and analyzing the fact faced by ideological education, namely, the ideology of common people dramatically changes after the traditional ideology quits the arena of history, the impact of Internet’s development on ideological education, and the actual difficulties and challenges of ideological education and control conducted by schools and research institutions.In the fourth part, the author attempts to explore the measures and ways to improve ideological education in the new era, such as continuing the construction of the socialist core value system, strengthening legislation and top-down design & planning, improving enhanced control and guidance of public opinions and the cultural undertakings, and making a good use of colleges and universities as main front.
