Study on mechanism of exercise fatigue and promoting its recovery is one of the important questions in the area of human sport science. Recovery of exercise fatigue is very important for body functions and athletics ability enhancement. Many studies showed that lots of active ingredients in Chinese herbs or plants had anti-fatigue and promoting recovery activities.Ginseng as a famous Chinese herb has diverse pharmacological effect. Ginseng Pectin is one of the active ingredients in Ginseng. As the mixture of acidic polysaccharides, Ginseng Pectin has many crucial biological activities, including immunoregulation, antidiabetics, tumor inhibition and cell migration affection.Depending on the advantage of interdisciplinarity between human sport science and biochemistry,this study focused on the function and mechanism of Ginseng Pectin WGPA in recovery of exercise fatigue.In this study, C57BL/6 mice were prepared exercise fatigue model by running wheel fatigue instrument. The model mice received a suspension of ginseng pectin(WGPA) with 200 mg per kg per mouse in 0.3 m L physiological saline, and using 0.3 m L physiological saline in control group. After having a rest for 24 hrs, glycogen in liver and quadriceps tissues as well as the concentration of lactic acid, malondialdehyde, blood glucose, urea nitrogen, insulin, glucagon and the activity of SOD and creatine phosphokinasein serum were detected. The results showed that WGPA treatment extremely enhanced hepatic glycogen reserves(P<0.01) and SOD activity(P<0.01) in convalescence after exercise fatigue. Moreover, WGPA treatment reduced the concentration of malondialdehyde significantly(P<0.05) and insulin extremely significantly(P<0.01), respectively.Above all, Ginseng Pectin has the potential in promoting recovery of exercise fatigue,mainly in promoting and increasing hepatic glycogen in convalescence, boosting SOD activity in serum, and reducing the concentration of MDA and insulin in serum. The mechanism of this efficacy could be concluded that Ginseng Pectin is involved in regulating glycometabolism, promoting hepatic glycogen and helping elimination of reactive oxygen species, which resulted in protecting mitochondria from lipid peroxidation for maintaining integrity.The pathway of Ginseng Pectin in promoting recovery of exercise fatigue has been revealed in this study, which provide important supplement for relevant research and valuable insight to further study on pharmacological effect of Ginseng Pectin, in addition to development of athletic Ginseng product. Moreover, this study has a realistic meaning in the context that revitalization of the Ginseng industry in Jilin province depending on priority of Baekdu Mountain characteristic resource.
