Research On Group Conflict Of Square Dance

This study takes the groups conflict of Nanning Square Dance as an example, which applies the methods of questionnaire and interview to collect the data, and explores conflict problems between square dance people and residents. Based on describing the social trend of Square Dance, the study analyzes the social fact characteristics of square dance.In the matter of group characteristic, the middle aged women is the majority of participants, but gender difference is less remarkable than the level of the social expectation, the participants also show a pursuit of self-demand in term of value orientation. In the matter of social dynamics, social transformation and aging of population are the material causes, and keeping fit is the primary aim of the Square Dance actor. For individuals and social system, the trend of square dance facilitates return of social person.,But on the other hand, it also breaks the balance of city ecosystem, causing groups conflict. Based on the above analysis, the author uses Dahrendorfand and Coser’s Theory for reference, exploring conflicts between the dance person and residents. The development of square dance conflict experiences four stages, the first is a accumulating stage of deprivation and dissatisfaction, the second is a out-breaking stage which is upgrading from psychological confrontation to physical conflict, the third is a public expression stage of negotiation and regulation, the fourth is a rules implementation process which is from disordered state to ordered. The conflict has three basic features. First, the conflict has a strong intention. Second, the degree of confrontation is low. Third, one side in the conflict is manifest group,and the side is quasi group. Although conflict promotes the internal solidarity of community, motivates the construction of new rules, but it impacts the harmony in inter-group relationship, leads to stigmatization of the square dance group, influences the stability of social order.The research points out the reasons of square conflict, one is the fight for public space resources, the second is different right claims between different groups, the third is a generation gap of value between the young and the old. the forth is a shortage of public cultural service,and the last is the immaturity of social coordination mechanism. To get out of square dance conflict, it needs to intervene in society, group and individual. And that will reply on the forming of group coordination mechanism in public space, the standardization development of organization, and the arousal of individual civic awareness.
