As the development of educational psychology, a lot of researchers regard self-concept as an important factor of education course. Self-concept means that an individual form his/her stable cognition of physiological status, psychological features and social properties etc. with multi-approaches, such as self-observation, analysis of external activities and social comparison. As a subdiscipline of self-concept, self-esteem details the reaction of the relationship between social evaluation and the needs of individual self-esteem. Nowadays, self-esteem turns into an independent discipline. In this research, the analysis would be based on a set of variables of self-esteem and self-concept. Currently, there are a number of researches available on self-concept which provides conclusions for reference that to some extend promoted the teaching practice. However, researches based on music professional college students are limited. Therefore, this research would be based on social cognitive theory combining the relationship of self-concept, self-esteem and musical education, aiming to find out relative data for these factors and students’ performance of music. Further, it would be suggested that the theory could be used for education practice and optimizing teaching methods. In addition, it could potentially help the students gain a better development both academically and mentally.Considering the aim of this research and the process of domestic and international relative researches, the combination of qualitative and quantitative method would be utilized in this paper. Data collection realized by questionnaire which gathered information of self-concept, self-esteem and music scores from 200 second and third year music professional college students. Afterwards, the data would be analyzed by SPSS and further used for discussion.This paper consists of six parts as introduction, literature review, methodology, results and conclusion. In the introduction, the writer mainly described the background information, research aim and question. Basic theory construction was represented in the literature review including status quo of relative researches all over the world. Then in the methodology, a detail introduction of the method design of this paper, specified the research object, measuring tool and the whole process. Afterwards, the primary data would be analyzed and discussed in the results part. Finally, a summary of this research would be provided in the conclusion.This research concluded that self-concept and self-esteem are connected to the music education and they are positive correlation to students’music achievement. Students with high self-concept and self-esteem tend to not only achieve a good score but also gain satisfaction and achievability, therefore have high willpower to finish their coursework. There are some drawbacks in this research, such as lack of longtime experiment test, limited research object etc. which could be continued in the future researches. However, with regards to the conclusion of this paper, the writer suggested further more deeply study on this aspect to make the theory closer to the educators’needs. Also, the point of self-concept in music education that potentially makes contribution to promote education methods and help students to achieve more in academic is promising.
