Since the implementation of new curriculum reform nationwide, both the style and the goal of class teaching in primary and secondary schools have been taking dramatic changes. Accordingly, the newly proposed Music Curriculum Standard has set a new goal for music teaching in primary school, calling for a new effective manner of practical course teaching. However, pursuing innovation without the guidance of essential theories, teachers’ innovations on curriculum design would be reduced to formalism of being similar in form but different in practice with few effects, which might lead the new curriculum reform nowhere. According to Polanyi’s theory, the gap and correlation between tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge depend on the transferring of knowledge,which coincided with the goal in theMusic Curriculum Standard, namely, "laying a solid foundation for students in learning music lifelong and developing music ability". Only by transferring music knowledge in textbook into students’ interests and basic abilities can the music teaching be recognized as successful.The study is composed of three chapters. The first chapter is theory review and analysis, explaining the forms and characteristics for the externalization of tacit knowledge. In the second chapter, based on the teaching philosophy by Carl Orff and Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and the case analyses of music teaching in primary schools, the study puts forward the initiatives to practice the externalization of tacit knowledge for music teaching in primary schools. In the third chapter, through experimental teaching, the author would design the content of course, carry out the design and make practical analysis on the theoretical basis of the second part. On the whole, the paper aims at finding out the effective strategies and execution approaches for the externalization of tacit knowledge in music teaching by studying the externalization of tacit knowledge in music teaching from multiple dimensions so that it could serve music teaching of elementary school in a better way.
