In recent years, with the outbreak of government trust crisis all over the world, research on government trust issue has been drawing more and more attention from the public management academic circle and the political academic circle. Different schools explore the factors influencing the trust in the government and the internal generation logic of the government trust issue starting from different dimensions and take the enhancement of the government trust path as the final destination of the research. The public nature of the power of the government determines that its effective operation is based on people’s support and trust. As the elites and standouts among the citizens, college students are shouldering the major task of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. Their level of trust in government does not only concern the current political stability, but also have a profound impact on the future development of the country. Substantial empirical data indicate that today when the value orientation tends to be increasingly diversified, the college students’ level of trust in government is declining year by year. On the contrary, the "religious craze" phenomenon has quietly surged. Currently there are few academic studies on both aspects under the same framework in the academic circle. However, as superstructure, similar to politics and social ideology, the interaction between religion and the political system is totally worthy of our in-depth exploration. Therefore, the innovation of this paper is taking the religious belief of the college students as the point of penetration to systematically investigate the college students’ trust in the government in combination with multi-dimensional perspectives, which is of certain research value and significance. This paper is based on survey data collected by questionnaires, adopts quantitative analysis method and unfolds discussion centering on the factors related to college students’ trust in government. It is mainly divided into five parts:Part One is introduction. This part elaborates on the relevant background of the college students’ trust in government while introducing the current "religious craze" on the campus and having a simple discussion of both issues in combination to put forward the significance, train of thought and operability of the research of this paper.Part Two is literature review. This part sorts out in detail the existing research results at home and abroad in the fields of "religious belief" and "government trust". The concrete introduction is carried out from the three aspects of definitions, measurement methods and influencing factors and comprehensive evaluation of the literature is conducted.Part Three is about research design and implementation. This part first introduces the overall processes of this survey and then the measurement of the variables and scoring of the questionnaires used in this survey and finally lists the outline of the contents of the later individual interviews.Part Four is data statistics and analysis. This part deals with the data collected through the formal survey, obtains statistics of the continuous variables and categorical variables of the samples, conducts equilibrium analysis and cross-over analysis of the samples and finally comes to the main conclusions of this paper through regression analysis. The study found that college students’ trust in government reached at a medium level, which influenced by five factors:gender, religious belief, tradition, social capital, government performance. The religious belief, the focus factor of this paper, has a negative effect to the trust in government. In addition, the performance of government plays the most important role in improving the level of individuals’ trust in government.Part Five is summary of conclusions and policy suggestions. In combination with the research conclusions of Part Four, pertinent policy suggestions are given to enhance the college students’ level of trust in government from four aspects, that is, actively carry forward the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation, clarify the positioning of the government construction and improve the governing performance level, enrich the spare-time activities of the college students on the campus and improve their participation in public affairs and respect the diversity of culture and guide the college students to consider the religious issue correctly.
